Ro’Derick Spears, a four year Varsity player for the Bobcats, signed a letter of intent last week at Coffeyville Community college to attend Mississippi State University where he will be a sprinter and hurdler for the Track and Field Team in the SEC.

Graduating in 2013, Ro’Derick was a four year star for the Bobcats, as a football player and as a Track and Field athlete where he competed at the State level.

I recently had the opportunity to do a virtual interview with Ro’Derick.  One of the questions I asked MSUwas ‘What are your life goals / ambitions?’ Ro’Derick’s responsed “One of my goals going into Juco was to make it out and get a good offer from a big D1 university. Even though football was the main reason for coming to Coffeyville community college, God had better plans for me. During spring football I had a reoccurring injury that forced me to have surgery. The following year (My sophomore year) instead of being on football scholarship I was now a full time track athlete. I have signed to continuing running at Mississippi State University on a full track scholarship. My biggest goal is to make it big in the track world (Olympics) but more importantly make my parents proud.”

Ro'Derick Spears Signing DayRo’Derick hopes to stay in the sports field as a career, studying somewhere within the Health Science category.

“I am beyond thankful for the opportunity I have been given and thankful for those who have supported me throughout this journey.”

On behalf of myself and the entire Bobcat Family, Congratulations Ro’Derick on taking a big next step on your journey to greatness. Looking forward to hopefully watching you run in the next Olympics, sporting a Bobcat warmup shirt?
